Rock FM’s Gemma Dee to wed at the Top of the Tower!

Rock FM’s breakfast show co-host Gemma Dee will be the first bride ever to get married on top of Blackpool Tower.

The wedding venue has been organised as part of a fantastic surprise by Gemma’s breakfast show co-host Adam Cattrall.

Adam unveiled the surprise live on air, and completely stunned the bride to be, Gemma.

Although blessings have taken place on the Tower before, no one has ever held the actual service at the top as the Tower was not licensed.

The Tower management had applied for the licence needed to perform legal services and had permission granted last week.

Adam contacted the Tower managers to see if Gemma and her fiancé Shaun could be the first couple to tie the knot at the top and luckily they agreed.

Adam, who was originally excluded from the invite list, said: “I knew Gemma wanted a really special day, that’s probably why she didn’t invite me! So managing to get her and Shaun up there as the first to ever get married on the top is just great for her, it really will be a special day. And the best news is she can’t not invite me now! “

Gemma and Shaun got engaged live on air back in May this year, when Gemma was spending a week living in a shop window as part of the Breakfast Breakout, raising £10k for Cash for Kids.

Gemma, who will now marry on Friday 24th October, said: “This is just fantastic news, I’m so thrilled. Every girl dreams of an extra special wedding and this will be more than extra special! It really will go down in history.”

The Tower’s General Manager Geoff Sage announced on air that Gemma would be the first ever wedding at the Top and said:

“It is great for the Tower and the resort that we have been granted the license for Tower top weddings and we can’t wait to host the first ever legal ceremony. It is going to be a hugely momentous occasion for us, and for Gemma and Shaun.”
